UK-based BAM International has been awarded a contract by Aqaba Development Corporation (ADC) to build a new port in Jordan

BAM International will work with its Jordanian joint venture partner MAG Engineering and Contracting to carry out the design and construction of four new berths, involving approximately 800m of quay wall, as well as revetment works, a breakwater, marine services, pontoons and a slipway.
The scope of the work also include land reclamation and 800,000 cubic meters of dredging works together with the construction of two intake pipes and an outfall pipe.
The port will be located approximately 15 miles south of Aqaba, close to the border of Saudi Arabia. Construction cost of the facilities is estimated at JOD65 million ($91.6 million). Work on the project is scheduled to commence in January 2012, and is expected to be completed by 2014.
